✨ Idea 2: Hyperrealism of a Saigonese
→ Genre: Psychological Thriller
Time period:
Modern days
- Ho Chi Minh city is in transitional phase of urban skyscraper and old, vintage alleyways
- Create underlying conflicts of old and new, and feeling of unfit.
Setting - Main theme:
- A young person, having been in HCM city for their whole life, struggles to find everything distorted.
- Internal conflict of the main character and feeling not fitting in
Plot:
- At first, everything is very normal, ordinary
- The character wakes up at night, sweating profusely. Their mom and dad enter the room to calm him down, but their sayings are weird
- The main character thinks about their day, how it would be repetitive of everyday
- The 2 next day the same, until their friends invite them out to an old coffee shop
- That day their parents get more strange, and so do their friends. A friend disappears into the dark alleyway
Character: :
- Family: traditional, strict, preachy and idealistic
- Friend: Modern, progressive, a bit pressuring, condemn otherness.
- MC: Self-inserted. Blank, doesn’t have an individualistic trait

✨ Idea 6: Burnt out and overwork
→ Genre: Psychological thriller
Time period:
Modern days
- Location is not restricted nor an intergral part of the premise of the opening sequence
Setting - Main theme:
A person, from the young age to the peak of adolescence, feel trapped inside the loop of constant working.
Their various achievements, trophies on display
Plot:
- They discussing their test results with the principal, with various staffs, administrators and teachers
- Their daily lives consisted of staying up late doing work, promoting unhealthy standard, to strive for academic achievements.
- Juxtaposed with them doing personal leisure, entertaining their hobbies, etc, as they wanted to hold a piece of themselves back from insane work load.
- At the end of the opening, their parents announcing that they would have to change school. Which, to them, was equivalent of losing everything they've tried to achieve.
Character:
- MC: Self-inserted. Blank, doesn’t have an individualistic trait
Really lovely work Dan - very imaginative ideas and ones that I think will give you an opportunity to create a really wonderful film opening. Nicely presented too. Very well done.
